2026 Prize in Economic Sciences: Hall and Woodford
The 2026 Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel was awarded jointly to Robert E. Hall and Michael Woodford for the microeconomic foundations of macroeconomic stabilisation. Their research explains how the decisions of households and firms shape the economy and provides a foundation for models used to stabilise economic fluctuations.
The announcement completes the 2026 Nobel season. With Hall and Woodford, the number of individual laureates recognised by the Nobel Prizes and the Prize in Economic Sciences has reached 1,000. Below are the two laureates and their work.
